The Datalogic Magellan 9550i is the newest model in Datalogic’s scanner/scale 9500 series range. It utilises cutting-edge technology combined with affordability, and enhanced customer experience. It offers 45% faster 2D scanning and is more environmentally friendly with less power consumption.

The new 9550i uses the same software interface as the 8400, 9600, 9800 and similar Magellan scanner & scale models so if your POS software works with the earlier models then it will readily work with the 9550i.

Comparing the Datalogic Magellan Prices:
If comparing prices on Datalogic Magellan products with other suppliers, please be aware that the Magellan range includes 'Scanner Only' lower priced versions which do not include a scale, and cheaper 'Adaptive Scale' versions which also do not include a scale - the 'Adaptive' models are designed to connect to a separate 3rd-party scale. Our Datalogic Magellan product is an integrated Scanner and Scale with dual serial interface.

The Datalogic Magellan 9550i is a modern in-counter scanner scale built for fast retail checkout, combining strong 1D/2D barcode reading with low power use and easy upgrade compatibility. Part of the 9500 series, it is aimed at busy stores that want better throughput, sustainability, and a straightforward replacement for older Magellan scanners.

Main Features:
The 9550i is a bi-optic scanner/scale that reads barcodes in all directions, including damaged or poorly printed labels, and supports common 1D and 2D symbologies such as QR, Data Matrix, PDF417, GS1 and Aztec. It consumes less than 3 watts in Eco mode, which Datalogic compares to a typical LED lightbulb, so it is designed to cut energy use without sacrificing performance. It also includes scale options (purchase separately): All-Weighs platter support, EAS integration, and optional image capture via a USB colour camera for shrink-control workflows.

New Technology:
One of the biggest updates is faster performance: Datalogic says the 9550i delivers 45% faster 2D scanning and 14% faster 1D scanning than previous-generation Magellan bi-optic devices. It also comes with out-of-the-box support for GS1 2D Digital Link, which is important for product traceability, recalls, expiry-date handling, and richer product information. In addition, the unit is built for remote management and enterprise integration, with support for POS and retail management environments.

Advantages over other Magellan models:
Compared with earlier Magellan models, the 9550i is positioned as a simpler, value-focused upgrade that keeps the same form factor for drop-in replacement at existing checkstands. It is faster and more efficient than previous bi-optic generations, while using much less power.

Suitability:
The 9550i is best suited to high-volume retail checkout environments such as supermarkets, grocery stores, convenience stores, and hypermarkets, where speed and accuracy matter most. It is also a strong fit for attended tills and self-checkout lanes because it helps reduce queue times and supports modern 2D code use. Retailers looking to improve sustainability, reduce shrink, and modernise existing Magellan installations without changing the checkout footprint are the clearest target users.

The Magellan 9550i is a fast, energy-efficient, future-ready checkout scanner scale. It delivers excellent everyday scanning, practical scale functions, and an easy upgrade path. That makes it a sensible choice for retailers who want modern performance without the complexity of a premium AI-focused system.

Special Notes:
1. Please check compatibility with your POS software provider prior to purchasing this item. This unit comes with 2 RS232 serial cables (1 each for the scanner and scale) and uses the same comms protocol as other Magellan 8300/8400/9400/9600 scanner scales.

2. This is a Shelf Mount unit, meaning you will need your tradesman to construct your own shelf for the unit inside your shop counter to securely sit on. The top surface of the scale/scanner will then flush with your counter-top. Alternatively please ask about the Flange Mount version or purchase our custom Housing Box (see Options above). We recommend you await physical delivery of your Datalogic unit to your premises before commencing any carpentry work for its fitting.

3. Your local Weights & Measures, Trading Standards may need to attend on-site to calibrate and certify these scales. Additional fees may apply for certification.

4. The included Pole Display is a remote unit with its own fixing bracket and runs via a cable to the main unit. (The above-pictured black pole is the CSS voucher/coupon scanner, the remote weight display is pictured above in grey).

If you require technical support to configure the scale for your POS software, physical installation or programming of scale settings and parameters then these specialist consultancy services are available at additional cost.
