Many cash registers support communication with a Windows PC for the purpose of downloading a logo, programming data onto the till as well as performing a backup or sending journal data to a PC.

Entering PLU's, departments and other programming data is much faster and easier using a PC with a full-size screen and keyboard, rather than the slow and cumbersome process via the cash register keypad/screen and can save you many valuable hours / days of work. Using Windows, you can copy-and-paste data from a spreadsheet or database, saving more time. Many of these programs also provide reporting features.
