Sunmi Devices - TecStore Buyers Guide

Sunmi is one of the world's market-leading manufacturers of commercial Android devices. Based in Shanghai, China it has hubs and official distributors in over 200 countries all over the world, including the UK. Described as a global “BIoT” (Business IoT) brand, Sunmi devices are available for use in retail, hospitality, logistics and other commercial sectors.

When choosing a Sunmi device for your business from TecStore, you'll encounter various technical specifications and features. This guide explains each feature in plain language, helping you understand what they do, which devices have them, and how they may benefit your operations.
1. Sunmi Product Categories
The Sunmi range from TecStore includes a comprehensive lineup of Android-based commercial devices organised into distinct product categories:

The V Series (V for Victory) includes handheld smart mobile terminals like the V2, V2 Pro, V2s, V2s Plus, V3, V3 Plus, and V3 Mix, designed for delivery management, mobile ordering, and streamlined payments with built-in thermal printers. Some models can also print labels as well as receipts.

The M Series (M for Mobility) comprises smart commercial mobile terminals such as the M2 and M2 Max, optimised for queue management and payment processing in tablet form factors.

The L Series (L for Logistics) features rugged handheld data terminals like the L2s, L2s Pro, L2H, and L2Ks, built for warehouse operations, RFID recognition, inventory management, and production line control. The K in L2Ks stands for keypad model.

The P Series (P for Payment) includes dedicated smart payment terminals such as the P2, P2 Lite, and P2 Pro, certified for full-spectrum payment processing including magnetic stripe, IC cards, NFC, and QR codes.

The T Series (T for Table) represents Sunmi's flagship desktop terminals like the T2, T2 Mini, and T3 family, offering premium all-in-one solutions for high-volume merchants requiring advanced order routing and split-check settlement.

The D Series (D for Desktop) provides value-optimised desktop terminals such as the D2 Mini for small and medium businesses needing streamlined checkout workflows.

Additional categories include the CPad Series for commercial tablets, the K Series for self-service kiosks (including the K2 and K2 Mini), the S Series for smart scale terminals with automated fresh produce management, and the FLEX Series for interactive display terminals supporting Kitchen Display Systems and digital signage.
2. Operating System
Sunmi devices are either pre-loaded with the conventional Android Operating system (usually Android 13 on modern models) or Sunmi OS which is based on Android with additional security and app control features added on.
3. Device Management
Sunmi has a system called Sunmi Partners Platform, also known as Sunmi DMP, Sunmi TMS, or Sunmi Cloud. A Sunmi Account ID is required to use the online platform to manage Sunmi devices remotely.

Usually your app provider or IT supplier will have a Sunmi Account and they will manage your device(s). If they or you do require, you will need to register at partner.sunmi.com to create an account and obtain an ID. Only registered businesses (incorporated companies) may register an account.

Devices will need to be "gifted" by us from our Sunmi distribution account to your or your app provider's Sunmi account using the device serial numbers. For gaining device ownership you must provide us with the active Sunmi Account ID and confirm the device serial number(s) once you receive delivery. We will then transfer ("gift") control to you and you will need to accept the "gifted" devices in the "Gift and Acceptance Record" section of your Sunmi Account before you can manage them.

Once devices are accepted with your Sunmi Account, the platform enables:
* Remote device configuration and policy deployment
* Application installation and management across all devices
* Custom branding (boot animations, wallpapers, home screen apps)
* Remote troubleshooting and technical support
* OTA system updates

4. UK or EU Model
The geographical version of the device determines which regulatory standards it meets, what charger plug it comes with, and default language, date and currency settings.

Typical uses:
* UK models come with UK three-pin chargers and meet British regulatory standards
* EU models include European two-pin chargers and comply with EU certification requirements

Both versions typically default to English language and include Google Play Store access.

Ensure your device complies with local regulations, comes with the correct power adapter for your region, and is pre-configured for your market. Ordering the wrong regional model may create additional configuration work, and may impact warranty or certification issues.

5. Barometer (on some models)
Models with the Barometer feature include a special sensor that measures atmospheric pressure, commonly found in weather stations and altitude-tracking devices. Primarily found in certain Sunmi L Series (logistics) rugged handhelds like the L2s Pro, L2H, and L3.

Typical use:
* 3D positioning - Combines with GPS to determine your exact floor level in multi-story warehouses or buildings
* Altitude tracking - Useful for delivery routes in hilly areas or tracking movement between floors
* Environmental monitoring - Some industrial applications require atmospheric pressure data

The inbuilt barometer enables more precise location tracking in vertical spaces. When you're in a five-story warehouse, the barometer helps the device know whether you're on the ground floor or fourth floor, improving inventory management accuracy and route optimisation.

6. NFC and Dual NFC (on some models)
Near Field Communication is a wireless technology that allows devices to communicate when placed close together (typically within 4cm).

Single NFC: Standard contactless communication chip, usually positioned at the back or top of the device.

Dual NFC: Two NFC modules - one standard position, plus "on-screen NFC" where customers tap their card/phone directly on the device's display screen.

Standard NFC is typically found in the following Sunmi product categories:
V Series, P Series, M Series, T Series, L Series - nearly all modern Sunmi devices

Dual/On-Screen NFC is found in models in the V3 family, L3, CPad, T3 PRO, and select premium models.

Typical use:
* Contactless payments - Accept Apple Pay, Google Pay, contactless cards
* Loyalty cards - Read customer membership cards
* Access control - Door entry systems, employee badges
* Inventory tagging - Reading NFC-tagged products
* SoftPOS - Turn the device into a payment terminal using on-screen NFC (no separate card reader needed)

Benefits of NFC:
* Single NFC is versatile for payments and data reading
* Dual/On-Screen NFC creates a smoother customer experience - they tap directly on the screen rather than searching for an NFC reader location
* On-screen NFC enables Stripe Tap to Pay and similar SoftPOS solutions, eliminating the need for separate payment hardware

7. 2D Scanner (on some models)
A barcode reading engine that can read both traditional 1D barcodes (like supermarket product barcodes) and 2D codes (like QR codes, Data Matrix codes).

Device categories:
* V Series - V2 Pro, V2s, V3 family (handheld mobile terminals)
* L Series - L2s, L2s Pro, L2H, L3 (rugged logistics terminals)
* P Series - Some P2 variants (payment terminals)
* M Series - M2 Max (tablet POS)

Typical use:
* Product scanning - Reading barcodes on products for checkout or inventory
* QR code payments - Scanning customer payment QR codes (Alipay, WeChat Pay, etc.)
* Ticket validation - Reading e-tickets and boarding passes
* Parcel tracking - Scanning shipping labels and tracking codes
* Asset management - Tracking equipment with barcode labels

Benefits of 2D:
Faster and more accurate than typing product codes manually. Reads damaged, wrinkled, or poorly printed codes that simpler scanners miss. Can capture codes from phone screens (for digital coupons, tickets, or payment codes).
8. Scanner Engine (on some models)
Scanner Engine Models: SE1100, SE1111, SE4100, SE4710, SE4770

Different barcode scanner modules, most manufactured by Zebra Technologies, are integrated into Sunmi devices. Think of them as different quality levels of camera lenses - all take pictures, but some perform better in specific conditions.

SE1100/SE1111: Entry-level scanners
* Found in: Budget V Series models
* Performance: Good for standard retail barcodes at close range
* Best for: Basic checkout, simple inventory tasks

SE4100: Mid-range scanner
* Found in: Standard V Series and L Series models
* Performance: Better motion tolerance, faster scanning
* Best for: Busy retail environments, moderate warehouse use

SE4710: Professional-grade imager (most common)
* Found in: V2 Pro, L2s Pro, L3, many premium models
* Performance: Excellent motion tolerance, reads damaged/folded codes, good range
* Best for: Fast-paced retail, delivery routes, general logistics

SE4770: Advanced long-range scanner
* Found in: L2Ks, L2H, specialized warehouse models
* Performance: Extended scanning range (up to several meters), laser aiming for precision
* Best for: Large warehouses, scanning high shelves, outdoor use in bright sunlight

Benefits:
Higher-end scanner engines read barcodes faster, from greater distances, and handle poor-quality codes better. If you're scanning hundreds of items daily or working in challenging conditions (bright sunlight, moving vehicles, damaged labels), the SE4710 or SE4770 significantly boost productivity.

9. GMS / EMS-EDLA (on some models)
GMS (Google Mobile Services) is a collection of proprietary Google applications and APIs that Sunmi devices can be certified to include. GMS-EDLA (Enterprise Device Licensing Agreement) is the licensing framework that allows enterprise Android devices like Sunmi terminals to legally pre-install these Google services.

Not all Sunmi devices have GMS certification - some models run standard Android without Google services. If you are an end-user, please check with your app provider whether you need a GMS-enabled device.

GMS certification is typically required when you need:
* Access to the Google Play Store for downloading business and payment applications
* Google location services and Google Maps integration
* Google Play Protect security features
* Compatibility with Android Enterprise management solutions
* Zero-touch enrollment for large-scale device deployment

GMS-certified models from TecStore include the Sunmi V2s series, V2s PLUS, L2H, L2Ks, L2s PRO, V3 Mix, V3 PLUS, and L3.

GMS certification provides several key advantages for Sunmi device users:
* App ecosystem access: Full compatibility with Google Mobile Services means access to thousands of business applications through the Google Play Store

* Enhanced security: Google Play Protect continuously scans apps, detects malware, and helps prevent unauthorized software installations - critical for payment environments handling sensitive transaction data

* Enterprise management: Seamless integration with Android Enterprise solutions, MDM (Mobile Device Management) platforms, and support for zero-touch enrollment enabling IT departments to deploy devices at scale without manual configuration

* Long-term support: Guaranteed Android version updates and regular security patches, extending device lifecycle and improving total cost of ownership

Payment compliance: For SoftPOS applications, GMS-EDLA certification ensures compatibility with payment certification requirements and Google Play Store distribution

GMS certification does impose some restrictions, which in many cases are deemed security and support advantages. About 68% of MDM functions (84 out of 123) work on GMS-certified Sunmi devices, with limitations on features like custom boot logos, wallpaper settings, silent app installation, and screen mirroring due to Google's security and privacy requirements.

10. Hyper Wi-Fi (on some models)
Hyper Wi-fi is Sunmi's proprietary Wi-Fi technology based on Wi-Fi HaLow (IEEE 802.11ah standard), operating on sub-1GHz frequencies rather than standard 2.4GHz/5GHz Wi-Fi.

Device categories:
* V Series: V3 Mix (with compatible Hyper Wi-Fi Mini AP access point)
* CPad Series: Optional feature
Requires Sunmi's Hyper Wi-Fi Mini AP hardware

Typical use:
* Large warehouses - Maintaining connection across vast open spaces
* Outdoor areas - Garden centers, outdoor markets, stadium concessions
* Kitchens - Penetrating metal walls and equipment that block standard Wi-Fi
* Multi-floor buildings - Better vertical penetration through concrete floors

Technical capabilities:
* 10x better wall penetration than standard Wi-Fi
* Up to 1km range in open environments (vs. ~100m for standard Wi-Fi)
* Automatic switching - Device seamlessly switches between Hyper Wi-Fi and regular Wi-Fi depending on signal strength
* Operates on sub-1GHz frequencies - Less interference, better obstacle penetration
